Starbucks Closing List: Are You Doing Well Enough to Miss a Store?

Ever since I heard the news that Starbucks would be closing 600 of its coffee shops, I've awaited the list of closings. I wondered is my Starbucks on the death list? I'm watching my budget and haven't dropped in lately, but thank goodness, no. The Starbucks nearest me is not on the list. When I can spare four bucks for coffee again. I'll drop in.

What about your nearby Starbucks? Here's the list at HuffPo of closings and also at Starbucks.com.

AP video did a story on the original announcement.

I like Starbucks, but my favorite coffee stop is PJ's Coffee. I like the atmosphere of the PJs that's walking distance from my house, and they have a medium blend that I just love, but I've been trying to kick regular hits of gourmet coffee. Rising food and gas prices seem to be causing us all to cut back, and with the recent IndyMac collapse and subsequent Fed takeover, I don't think the economy's getting better anytime soon.

Check out this video on IndyMac hysteria.

America's also seeing a greater gap between haves and have nots, and that has consequences most of us don't even think about. For more on gap consequences, try this Harvard Magazine article. While some of us do well enough to complain about losing lattes, others are losing jobs, homes, and health care coverage.

As Bette Davis said in All About Eve, "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."
