Forest Whitaker and William Faulkner's Poetry Quote

Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker was one of speakers yesterday at the inauguration concert/presentation at the Lincoln Monument in Washington DC. I watched on HBO and appreciated Whitaker's quote from writer William Faulkner on the potential of the poet's influence on society.
The poet's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail. -- William Faulkner US novelist (1897 - 1962)
I like Faulkner's novels and had not heard that quote before. The words resonated with me since I had already started Baracku, a Twitter poetry experiment that I hope will help us "endure and prevail."

If you'd like to know about this poetry experiment, click this link to learn about concept or this other link to learn how to participate.

I found Faulkner's quote at a quotations site.
