Tracking Obama's Humor: The Alfalfa Club Dinner

Periodically I post on President Barack Obama as comedian. For instance, I've posted his roasting Rahm Emanuel (before Obama was President and Emanuel was his Chief of Staff), and Obama's poorly received poke at former First Lady Nancy Reagan during a post-election press conference. Tonight I'm sharing his subtle humor at Washington D.C.'s Alfalfa club dinner, a 93-year-old annual event started by good ole boys of the American south, people who would not have believed a black man could ever lead this nation nor should he.
The first African-American president began by poking fun at the club's historical roots.

"I know that many you are aware that this dinner began almost 100 years ago as a way to celebrate the birthday of General Robert E. Lee," Obama said, referring to the man who commanded the Confederate army during the Civil War.

"If he were here with us tonight, the general would be 202 years old. And very confused." (CNN)
Per CNN, Obama also took another swing at Emanuel's reputation for foul language. When he roasted him, Obama got a big laugh about Emanuel's ability to cuss after losing part of his middle finger. At the Alfalfa dinnner, the president joked about Emanuel's role in his second swearing in after the inauguration ceremony.

There's nothing sexier in a man than a well-honed sense of humor!
