Old School Friday: My Choice This Time, Y'All

Well, another work week comes to its end and we know what that means, Old School Friday. This week's theme is blogger's choice. I've chosen Ms. Erykah Badu's "Call Tyrone." I didn't pay that much attention to it when it first came out, busy with family or something. But I remember my Aunts, who were in their 60s at the time, going on about this song. I knew right then that Ms. Badu had staying power.

But I didn't choose the "Call Tyrone" clip because it's my favorite Badu song. I like this clip of her live, having fun with the audience. It's getting me in the mood for next weekend's concerts. I will be at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival seeing Badu, Earth Wind & Fire, James Taylor, Etta James, Dave Matthews Band, local brass bands, etc. But they overlap headliners and you have to make a choice about who to see or perhaps to see half of one and half of the other. I'm mildly disappointed about that. Still, Happy OSF!

Ms. Badu is an extraordinary talent and one of my fave artists. It sounds like you will be having a good time at the festival. I wish that I could be there, it's going to be great. Happy OSF!

I am SOOOO jealous! Well, have a great time and toast one for me as you're jamming to the music.

Thanks for the Tyrone clip. That song cracks me up every time I hear it. It's so funny how the studio version is so dry in comparison to the live version. It is definitely the type of song that was meant to be sung live in front of an appreciative (and testifying!) audience.

Happy OSF!

I'm in soulful mood too, and I picked two wonderful women, who are great live.

I was at a Dallas concert when this song came out, and the crowd just went crazy...

But, being from Dallas, I am blessed to see her in concert quite often.

Hey Verite, and Happy OSF!

I have always loved this song, but not nearly as much as my dear wife. When that song first came out she would be singing that tune all over the house. And if she wasn't singing it she couldn't wait to tell somebody they'd better call Tyrone. I actually started feelin' sorry for the brother.

Great choice!

Tyrone was so fresh when it came out. She gave voice to a lot of women's thoughts. Happy OSF!

I am so JEALOUS - you're going to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! Oh, I did that about 15 years ago and have wanted to go back every year since.

Lucky, lucky you! Bring me back a beignet, will you??

I've been in a bouncy mood all week dancing around the house and usually while humming this: The One, The Only True ROCK & ROLL THEME SONG! - at least for a retro 70s freak like me.

Happy OSF!

I fell in love when Ms. Badu previewed the song at a show I saw her at long time back. That song is so lovely in concert. I find the album track is lacking that special "audience" feel. Unless you listen to the live version.

Love the pic. :)

Seeing Ms. Badu in concert is a special treat...she and Ms. Jill give some of the best stage performances I have every witnessed...

Have a load of fun!

It sounds like the musical party in on in NOLA!

I have seen Ms. Badu in concert-she knows how to connect with folks.

EWF is tough still.

And your OSF choice this week is definitely a great one!
