Murdered Writer Don Belton's Journal Helped Catch Suspect

In December over what was Christmas break for students at Indiana University, Bloomington, Michael J. Griffin, a white male and former U.S. Marine, admits that he entered the home of African-American Assistant Professor Don Belton, pictured left, and stabbed him to death with a 10-inch military knife. Belton, 53, whose body was discovered on his kitchen floor the night of December 28, 2009, was a successful writer who colleagues call gifted and genial. He was also openly gay.
