A Bitter Black Woman? More on Lena Horne

I just finished posting on Lena Horne for, and the more I read about her and how some people perceive her, the more I think that maybe beautiful women, in particular beautiful, fair-skinned black women, aren't allowed to be angry. Having become aware of James Gavin's biography of Horne, Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne, it occurs to me that had Horne been white, much of her fiery temperament would have been classified as creative spirit and the usual trappings of the prima donna personality.

Instead, Horne's presented as someone who was not grateful and gracious enough. What do you think? Read more.
