Remember When People Used to Compare the Jackson Five and the Osmond Brothers?

Here is video of Donny Osmond introducing Janet and Michael Jackson at the American Music Awards, 1975, followed by a video of Michael Jackson with Donny Osmond presenting an award in 1974.

1975 Presenting AMA for Favorite Soul Group
Donny Osmond: And now to present the award for the favorite soul group, here's a singer that I used to idolize when I was a kid. Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson!

Michael Jackson: (Band plays "Dancing Machine" as Michael walks out. Referencing Marie Osmond, he says ...) At this time I would like to say that certain persons are not the only ones that can have a beautiful sister that can come out and present an award. So, at this time to assist me in the next award, I'd like you all to meet a beautiful, talented, and charming young lady, my sister Janet Jackson!

(Janet, about age 8, struts out in an evening gown with feather boa and climbs on a box so she can reach the microphone. Audience applauds and cheers, chuckling.)

Janet Jackson: There are so many women going into police work these days that I decided to go into third grade.

Michael Jackson: (genuinely laughing) Thank you, Jan. Thank you very much. The nominees for favorite soul group are Gladys Knight and the Pips, The O'Jays, The Stylistics, and the winner is ... Janet I'll let you open this.

Janet Jackson: Gladys Knight and the Pips!

1974 Presenting AMA for Favorite Soul Group
In this second video from the 1974 AMAs, Michael and Donny present the award for favorite soul group together, and their meeting is introduced as historic. Cue the cute banter.
